Vodka Vtraiom is Georgian alternative-punk band, formed in Tbilisi in 2004. Lyrics are generally in Georgian language, but also in English and Russian. They are about: bad relations among people, politics, alcohol & drugs, war, suicide and so on. Vodka Vtraiom has not any studio records yet, except some demos. Kesha and Borgir are refuges from Abkhazia, They had to leave their native land due to the ethnic conflict in 1992-93. So the main ideology of the band is antimilitary, because the war brings only destruction, disappointment & pain. Besides all this negative stuff the members of Vodka Vtraiom are very cheerful & like to pass time in the company of friends!

A double LP compiling the prize-winning songs of the festival was released in 1981 The "Spring Rhythms. Tbilisi-80" (Russian: Vesennye ritmy. Tbilisi-80) was a musical event held in Tbilisi, capital of the Georgian SSR, Soviet Union, from March 8 to March 16, 1980. It was the first official rock festival in the Soviet Union and is frequently considered the turning point in the history of Soviet and Russian rock music.
Organization
The festival was organized by the Georgian National Philharmonic Hall, the Union of Composers of the Georgian SSR, and the Republican Center for Youth Culture at the Georgian Komsomol Central Committee. The acclaimed Russian musicologist and the first Soviet rock-critic Artemy Troitsky was also heavily involved in organizing the event. The organizers enjoyed the support of Eduard Shevardnadze, the contemporary First Secretary of Georgian Communist Party, who is said to have sought, in this way, to pacify the Georgian youth increasingly involved in nationalist and dissident activities after the April 1978 demonstrations in Tbilisi, and to nurture his image as a liberal leader. Although dubbed by some as a "Soviet Woodstock", the festival was essentially a state-sanctioned musical competition with the declared aim "to promote the development of original Soviet VIA music... and to discover new talented performers and composers." The jury, formed by the officially established Soviet composers and musicologists, was chaired by Yuri Saulsky and included Murad Kazhlayev, Giya Kancheli, Konstantin Pevzner, Vladimir Rubashevsky, Arkadi Petrov, and others. Many suspected that the festival was an attempt by the Soviet establishment to channel the Soviet rock movement into a controllable ideological vessel. However, the event was truly democratic in that it allowed amateur performers to contest on equal terms with professional musicians. Over twenty groups from seventeen cities of the Soviet Union arrived in Tbilisi to take part in the event. Yet, several notable bands, for example Sergei Rudnitsky's Araks and Aleksey Romanov’s Voskresenie were not invited to take part in the competition.
Prize winners:
The first prize was awarded to Mashina Vremeni, a rock band from Moscow led by Andrei Makarevich, which fascinated the public with their poetic lyrics and, through this success, firmly established themselves on the Soviet rock scene, and to Gunnar Graps’s Magnetic Band from Tallinn, Estonian SSR, which performed a mixture of jazz-rock, blues and funk and was noted for their instrumental mastership. The second prize was won by Alexander Sitkovetsky’s art-rock group Avtograf hailing from Moscow, Gunesh from Ashkhabad, Turkmen SSR, playing jazz-rock based on Turkmen folk melodies, and Labyrinth from Batumi, Adjar ASSR, Georgia, which performed a half-hour composition marrying folk-rock with traditional Georgian choral music. The professional Georgian soft-rock band VIA-75 led by Robert Bardzimashvili, to the surprise of many, received only the third prize which they shared with Dialog led by the organist Kim Breitburg from Donetsk, Ukrainian SSR, the eclectic band Integral from Saratov, Russian SFSR, and Tip-Top from Riga, Latvian SSR, whose success was largely indebted to the singer Harald Simanis. A popular Georgian beat-band Blitz led by Valery Kocharov was awarded a special prize of the audience. The compilation of the award-winning songs was released as a 2 LP Лауреаты фестиваля "Весенние ритмы" Тбилиси – 80 ("The Laurel-winners of the Festival Spring Rhythms Tbilisi-80") by the Soviet state-run record label Melodiya in 1981

Controversies
Among the notable participants, the veteran Soviet rock bands VIA-Ariel and Stas Namin Group did not win any prizes. Boris Grebenshchikov’s Aquarium was also left without laurels, but the band's outlandish stage antics made Aquarium into a symbol of the Soviet alternative culture. The jury members walked out of a concert when the musicians drank port wine right on the stage and made provocative body movements, with Grebenshchikov playing his guitar in the prone position. The show came as a shock to the organizers and led to an effective ban of the band. Yet, Aquarium managed to organize a second concert in Gori, Georgia, in a spacious circus hall near the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. The concert was filmed by a Finnish TV crew and the segments were included into a 40-minute film of the Tbilisi festival called "Soviet Rock".
Outsider was formed in 1989 in Qutaisi by Robi Kukhianidze. Robi doesn't considers himself as punk or alternative musician (so called alternativshik), though his band Outsider has both punk and alternative elements in it. He dislike when someone calls him father of Kutaisian rock or father of Georgian alternative music, moreover he don't likes such conditional titles.
He considers Peter Mamonov, well-known Russian underground musician, as one of his biggest teacher. The Outsider recorded its first album "Inside" in Mamonov's studio, Moscow in 1992. By the way this album was the first Georgian vinyl among Georgian rock-band albums which was recorded abroad. Outsider was the only Georgian band which took part in 1991 first in Talin and then in Moscow international alternative music festivals. Front man, vocals and Guitar player of Trio Outsider, Robi Kukhianidze moved from Kutaisi to The capital in the year 2000. Despite this, his music was well known in Tbilisi from 1996 when he won a prize on festival "Margarita 96" as a best Georgian alternative musician. Albums: Albums: "Inside" - 1992, " Primitivi " (Primitive) - 1997 , "Mkvleli" (Murderer) - 1999

Irakli Charkviani (November 19, 1961 – February 24, 2006) was a Georgian poet, prose writer, and musician, lately known under his pseudonym Mefe ("The King"). Charkviani was known for his eccentric image and poetry, and for eclectic music, which spanned alternative rock, electronic music and hip hop. Charkviani was born into an élite family in Tbilisi, the capital of then-Soviet Georgia. His father, the journalist and diplomat Gela Charkviani is Georgia’s current ambassador to the United Kingdom, and grandfather Candide Charkviani was the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Georgian SSR Communist Party from 1938 to 1952. His greatgrandfather was a prominent Georgian artist Mose Toidze. Charkviani graduated from the Department of Western European and American Literature, Tbilisi State University. His debut in 1976, with the indie rock project Arishi, passed unnoticed, but the later band Taxi had a greater success and recorded the homonymous album in 1988. In the 1980s, several of Charkviani’s lyrics and short stories, noted for their rebellious character, were published in Georgian literary press. Early in the 1990s, Charkviani emerged as one of the leading artists on Georgia’s alternative and electronic scene. Leading the projects Children’s Medicine (1991-2), and Georgian Dance Empire (1993), he performed throughout Georgia as well as abroad, particularly in Moscow and Eastern Europe. Charkviani’s debut solo-album Svan Song was recorded in Germany in 1993 and proved to be a significant influence on the Georgian alternative music of the 1990's. He composed music for the feature film "Orpheus’s Death" in 1995 and went on to record his second album Ap’ren in 1997, followed by the single Sakartvelo in 1999 and the albums Amo and Savse in 2001 and 2004, respectively. Around the same period, he chose the pseudonym of Mefe, meaning in Georgian "the king". Charkviani also authored several poems, stories and a novel, but his music remained the principal source of his popularity.
He died, reportedly of "heart problems", at his home on February 24, 2006, leaving several unpublished songs which were subsequently released as the album Dzirs Mefe ("Down with the King") in 2007.

“HEAVY CROSS” was established in 1988. From the very first day of its existence the group has been taking most active part in the Georgian rock movement through numerous performances, concerts, tours and festivals. In 1990 the group won the prize of the international rock festival in Liepaja (Latvia). Since 1988 the lineup of the group has changed several times. In 2001 the group suffered the death of its drummer David Zibzibadze. Despite the fact that over the thirty years of its existence the group has been constantly creating its own music the first studio album was released only in 2002. It was a collection of songs created between 1997 and 2002, and was dedicated to the memory of David Zibzibadze. The songs were performed by Mamuka Chikhladze (guitar), Levan Kapanadze (bas, back vocal), Levan Beitrishvili (vocal), David Zibibadze (drums, records of 1997) and Dimitri Oganesyan (drums, records of 2002). In 2005 the second guitarist, Giorgi Chubinidze joined the group, and soon after that “Heavy Cross” won the contest “Patrinote” with the song “A Georgian’s Duty” (Five Cross Flag). In the same year, Levan Kapanadze and Levan Beitrishvili were invited to participate in the project “We Remember”. Together with other participants they created and recorded the song “We Remember”.In 2007 the group released a new album “FanX” with Goga Ioramashvili as a vocalist ("HEAVY CROSS" 1995-1997) . The songs in this album – all being rather diverse stylistically - have a much heavier sound than previous ones. In 2008 Giorgi Chubinidze left “Heavy Cross”. At the same time one of the founders and lead guitarist Mamuka Chikhladze, who decided to focus on his own solo project, temporarily left the group too. The group invited a young talented guitarist, Guja Mchedlishvili, and on June 1, 2008 performed at Tbilisi Blietzkreig Metal Fest 2008. The same summer “Heavy Cross” was invited to Turkey to participate in the annual International Rock Festival BarisaRock – Rock for Peace 2008. Before the departure for Turkey “Heavy Cross” conducted its farewell concert with its friends Rezi Abesadze and Nika Leshchenko. Right after that Rezi Abesadze accepted an offer to join the group. On August 9, 2008 “Heavy Cross”, with Guja Mchedlishvili & Rezi Abesadze on guitars, performed as a headliner in front of 80.000 audience of BarisaRock – Rock for Peace 2008. It was a great success, which grew even further due to the fact that during those very days Georgia was invaded by Russian troops, and, of course, the presence at the anti-war festival of the group from a country suffering war and aggression acquired special importance. Upon arrival in Georgia the group was re-joined by Mamuka Chikhladze, who now plans to work with Levan Kapanadze and Dimitri Oganesian on his own new project. As a result the group is currently working on two parallel projects.

About: The Shin formed in 1998 in Germany, where Zaza Miminoshvili and Zurab Gagnidze have been living since 1994. Mamuka Gaganidze joined the band in 2002. In their native Georgia these musicians are acclaimed among the country¹s most elite composers and musicians. The Shin's "instrumental theatre" is the sound of Georgia's musical encounter with the world. In The Shin's music Georgian-style vocal pyrotechnics, intricate polyphony and instrumental virtuosity meet jazz scat, funk and fusion, flamenco, Ravel and Shakti. How does it sound? Sophisticated, surprising, hip, humorous, and always exhilarating - even at its most sensitive. The Shin¹s celebratory musical dialogues know no bounds. Listen again and you'll hear something new each time. Members of The Shin have composed original works for productions at the Tbilisi State Theatre and for film, television and radio programs in their native Georgia and around the world. They have collaborated internationally with artistic greats like Gia Kancheli, Robert Sturua, Jorge Pardo, Giora Feidman, Chaka Khan, Randy Brecker, Okay Temiz and Fuat Saka and many others. The Shin is regularly spotlighted in international festivals and has received significant critical acclaim for its unparalleled originality and magnetic appeal. In Georgian shin means coming home. Although each of us has our own home and our own road home, The Shin¹s music has the amazing ability to lead everyone "home", no matter how far it may be. It may lead you somewhere you know you've been before, where the windows are fogged over from the rain and familiar smells waft in from the kitchen, where you hear familiar voices and you understand, even when you can¹t make out the words. The Shin's latest project, "EgAri" ("That's it!" in Georgian), features the trio collaborating with Georgian folk musicians, singers and a dancer in pursuit of a quintessentially Georgian, yet unmistakably modern, sound. EgAri is shaped around traditional Georgian instrumental styles, polyphonic vocals, and folk dance. It unites them for the first time ever in a brilliant aural and visual display. EgAri is a non-conventional hybrid of archaic and modern elements, Caucasian and non-indigenous instruments, startling Georgian harmonies and more familiar jazz threads. For The Shin, only a music which continuously evolves can survive. It is in this spirit that the musicians perceive themselves not as threats to, but as guardians of, Georgian tradition. EgAri is a showcase for a handful of Georgia's most outstanding musicians. It reinitiates a peaceful dialogue between East and West, old and new, "ours" and "theirs" -a dialogue which has existed in Georgian culture for centuries. It is possible to experience this dialogue in the poetry of Shota Rustaveli, the paintings of Niko Pirosmani, the architecture of Tbilisi, the choreography of George Balanchine, the films of Otar Ioseliani, and yes... ...the music of The Shin.
Im Nebel was formed at the beginning of the year 2006 by three individuals, who decided to combine their views, ideas and perception of music. The idea of this project, which at first tended to be just an experiment, later transformed into a more definite conception - a "band". The original line-up of the band was: Michael (guitars), Sergey (bass) and Dima (drums). It was challenging for them, since they have already played together before, but their efforts failed to produce any result because of a number of disagreements. But inspite of the discrepancies they saw the right track to set their efforts on and eventually came down to a creation of something common. Initially the band lacked tunefulness since the three instruments could not create the desired sound. The joining of Helen (keyboards) and Vaso (vocals) set the final style, sound and more importantly the line-up of the band. In August 2006 the band began recording their album at "Zibo Studio". Album is already recorded and will be released in June.

Currently, the band consists of seven members: George “Vaho” Babunashvili – bass, vocals; Nodar Manchkhashvili – drums; George “Giorgi” Kobakhidze – guitar, vocals; Alexander “Sandro” Nikoladze – flute, lyre; Emzar Burduli – French horn and vocals; Anna Sikharulidze – accordion and keyboards; and Irakli - guitar, keyboards, vocals. Soft Eject debuted at a Georgian rock festival in Batumi in 1990, and then relocated to Germany touring extensively from 1992 to 1995. In 1995, Soft Eject shot their first video for the single “Please Just Carry On” which remains one of their most popular songs to this day. Next year, the band opened their own recording studio, S.E. Studio. In the 200s, they took part in all important rock festivals in Georgia, organized nation-wide tours and performed several times in the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. Soft Eject was involved in the bloodless 2003 Rose Revolution in Georgia, supporting, together with other popular Georgian rock acts, the opposition demonstrations in the inclement weather and earning the nickname “Rain Musicians.” During Ukraine’s similarly non-violent Orange Revolution in 2004, Soft Eject joined other Georgian rock groups such as Zumba and Green Room in a solidarity concert in downtown Kiev to support the local opposition cause. The band members engage in civil society and several other cultural projects. Vaho Babunashvili was a member of the supervisory board for the Georgian Public Broadcasting and has been involved in research and popularization of Georgian folk music. He is also a bass player for the Tbilisi-based jazz-rock band Green Room, a founder of NGO Modern Sound House (MSH) and Step Records Ltd record company. Nodar Manchkhashvili has translated over 30 books from English into Georgian and runs NGO Culture Plus Foundation. George Kobakhidze works as an art manager for the popular radio station “Utsnobi 98.0 FM”. Sandro Nikoladze is one of the lead musicians in the National Ballet Troupe Sukhishvili and performs in Moving Theater. Emzar Burduli performs with the Tbilisi National Symphonic Orchestra. The band’s former guitarist Gia Karchkadze researches Georgian folk instruments and runs a publishing house. He has authored and produced the first interactive Georgian national musical instruments catalogue. The guitarist and singer Pecho, one of the band’s founding members, now pursues a solo career.

Everything had not started then. . . But it had imprinted in my memory as one of the significant and decisive moment in my memory. I was about 7-8 years old when at school I paid attention at two of my class-mates, who were sitting beside me and were talking about a group. Later the essence of this group became clear for me and I also became worth to hear its music. My schoolmates now are my closest friends and companions of my life. The group was called “THE BEATLES”. So this was our support point for realizing our naive idea – both three of us had guitars at home. Levan was perfectly singing and playing on the guitar (he was singing in famous folk group “Martve”. And he still continues). We also had a big notebook, full of verses. This, if I am not mistaken, was a result of Estate’s and her sister’s interest of English language. Time has a habit – It never stops. We have graduated school without coming true our desire, to become a famous vocal-instrumental group, although school director and The Union of Young Communists (for who we became subject of pride) were keeping their promises to get musical equipments.
About:
Band is originally from Tbilisi, Georgia. They have become one of the most wanted live performers in their native country. They became popular very quickly, recorded debut album and played at various big national festivals and solo concerts. Musically this is a mixture of indie, electronica and alternative rock. Recently main band members moved to London, formed new line up and are ready to take on the UK. The Young Georgian Lolitaz have around 30,000 downloads on popular unsigned mp3 artists' website and have been tipped for stardom. The song 'Star' was track of the year on the same website (www.mp3unsigned.com). Their influences include The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Beck, Radiohead, Nirvana and many others. Their live material includes mix of pure live as well as electronic tracks. In their own words their style is avant-garde mainstream which can excite the most sceptical and critical listener.
